The sponsorship of TU Delft's EcoRunner student team
Today's students are building our future. So too at TU Delft, where the Eco-Runner Team has been building an increasingly efficient hydrogen-powered car since 2007. For years, the Eco-Runner Team has competed in the Shell Eco-marathon, an efficiency race for cars running on new technology. Knowing that tomorrow's technology is emerging today, Teesing sponsors and collaborates with an innovative team like Delft's. As a consultant to the team, Teesing worked with them to develop a more efficient fuel cell for the 2015 car. Of all the participants, the 2015 car drove the most economically.
Due to the years of successful cooperation, the Eco-Runner Team decided to go on a working visit to Teesing in Rijswijk to gain more insight into the company's history and activities (see the blog post of the Eco-Runner Team's visit to Teesing on the team's website). It became clear to the team that Teesing, which started out as a sheet metal supplier, has evolved into a partner that thinks with the customer and can effectively respond to all technical needs of customers, even if a completely new component or product needs to be designed.
Because hydrogen has significant advantages as a fuel, it is attractive to follow the technical development around it and keep it moving. Hydrogen is clean and its combustion is CO2 neutral. This makes it sustainable, and combustion releases a relatively large amount of energy. A few years ago, Teesing developed its own filling system that uses hydraulics and reduces energy wastage, which is often a problem with the "pre-cooling" required to move hydrogen within the composite storage tank. So in the field of hydrogen technology, Teesing also has a . Furthermore, Teesing is involved in a national platform for companies and governments involved in hydrogen technology. In this way, Teesing is participating in the energy transition, which involves the use of cleaner fuels.
Hence, Teesing will be closely monitoring the Eco-Runner Team's performance in July, when the team competes in the Shell Eco-Marathon. The Eco-Runner Team has been competing in the Shell efficiency race with hydrogen-powered cars since 2008, which involves covering as many miles as possible using as little fuel as possible. In 2018, the team even hopes to cover 4,000 km on the equivalent of 1 l of gasoline. The Delft Eco-Runner team has performed well in previous years, most notably taking first place in 2015. Obviously, an event like this, with its extremely efficiently designed vehicles, is an excellent way to draw attention to hydrogen technology.
